תפקיד הוא אוסף של הרשאות שמאפשרות למשתמשים לבצע פעולות ספציפיות במשאבים של Google Drive. כדי לתת הרשאות למשתמשים, לקבוצות ולחשבונות שירות, צריך להקצות להם תפקידים. כשמקצים תפקיד, מעניקים את כל ההרשאות שהתפקיד מכיל.

הרשאה עם view=published ו-role=reader מעניקה ל-reader גישה לתצוגה שפורסמה של הקובץ, אבל היא לא מעניקה ל-reader גישה לקובץ.
הרשאה עם view=metadata ו-role=reader מעניקה ל-reader גישה למטא-נתונים של התיקייה, אבל לא מעניקה גישה לתוכן התיקייה.
