Create a test ID pass in Google Wallet

Prerequisites

  • Two Android devices

The first device simulates an ePassport, and the second device is where you'll add the ID pass derived from the simulated ePassport.

Setup devices

  • Device 2
    • Install (or update) the Google Wallet app from Play Store
    • Check that you have Google Play services version 24.38.xx or higher. Check thissupport article for how to check Google Play Services on your device.
    • Verify that the Android device being used for is NOT a debug or rooted device.
    • Switch Wallet to Sandbox environment
    • Use a Gmail ID (@gmail.com) to provision the digital ID

Add the test ID to Wallet

  1. Open the Wallet App and click the "Add to Wallet" Button
  2. Select "ID" -> "ID pass"
  3. Follow the instructions to completion to add your ID to Wallet
    1. During the MRZ scan, tap on the new entry created earlier in the simulator app and scan the MRZ displayed
    2. Place the device with the simulator app (with MRZ page open) on the back of the device where you are adding the ID pass during the NFC scan.

View Details in Wallet

  1. Once your ID pass is in Wallet, select the three dots in the top right corner and click "ID pass Info"
  2. Click through various options listed and verify they work as expected, particularly the card details section to verify the data is what you expect

Delete your test ID pass from Wallet

Select the 3-dot menu in the top right of the ID screen and select the option to delete. Follow the steps and verify the process completes as expected
