Request imagery updates

If you find areas where imagery is outdated on the map, you can report where and why updates are needed. Your reports provide high-quality signals that help Google prioritize future imagery updates.

Scope and limitations

Our team uses your feedback for the following:

  • Acknowledge your signal: We use your report to understand where construction, new roads, or significant property changes have occurred.
  • Prioritize high-need areas: By providing structured data — such as the specific area and the date the change occurred — you help us identify areas where updated imagery collection is needed.

Due to the significant technical complexities of global imagery acquisition, the following limitations apply:

  • No guaranteed updates: Submitting a request does not guarantee that new imagery will be updated for that specific location.
  • No specific timelines: We can't provide estimated timelines for when a report might be addressed.
  • No seasonal preferences: We can't fulfill requests for imagery captured during a specific season (for example, "winter only" or "leaf-off" views).
  • No financial credits: We don't offer credits or payment for reporting outdated imagery.

Submit a report

To submit a report go to Help    Request imagery update.

To ensure your request is actionable for our team, follow these guidelines when using requesting imagery updates:

  1. Zoom in: The tool requires you to draw or select a polygon smaller than 169 km2 (approximately 13 x 13 km). To do so, zoom into the region requiring updates.
  2. Define the area: Use an existing polygon or draw a new one to highlight the region that has changed.
  3. Provide the date of change: Knowing when a change happened (for example, "more than a year ago") helps us decide whether to retrieve existing imagery from our archives or task new acquisition.
  4. Select a reason: Clearly identify whether the update is needed due to new buildings, road construction, or other image quality issues, like cloud cover.
