Google Maps Platform Subscriptions

Subscriptions enable you to use a set amount of Google Maps Platform usage at a fixed monthly fee.

You can sign up for a subscription in the Google Cloud Console on the Maps Subscription Management page. Allow up to three business days for a new or modified subscription to become fully active.

Once you sign up, you can keep your plan until you decide to change or cancel it. All subscriptions are subject to the program's terms and conditions and overall availability.

Overview

Google offers three subscription plans, each with a single, combined usage limit for all included SKUs:

Once you sign up for a subscription plan, calls using the services included in your plan count toward your subscription plan's usage limit for the month. Calls exceeding these limits, or usage of SKUs not included in your plan, are charged at standard pay-as-you-go prices. Use the Maps Subscription Management page to monitor your current API call consumption against the limit of your subscription plan.

Your subscription plan SKU — Maps Starter Subscription Plan, Maps Essentials Subscription Plan, or Maps Pro Subscription Plan — appears as a line item on your bill. You also see separate line items detailing the usage of individual SKUs included in your plan. The charges for these SKUs are listed as "Negotiated Savings."

Sign up mid-month

If you have already used Google Maps Platform services this month, you can still sign up for a subscription plan. The console automatically checks your month-to-date usage and shows you the subscription plans that you can still select for the remainder of the month.

For example, if you have already made 70,000 Geocoding API calls so far this month, you won't be able to select the Starter plan, which has a 50,000 call limit for Dynamic Maps and Geocoding API calls. Instead, you would be able to select the Essentials or Pro plans, which are capped at 100,000 and 250,000 calls, respectively.

If you sign up for a subscription mid-month, your bill for the month includes the cost of all calls used before you signed up for a subscription plan, plus a prorated subscription fee covering the remaining days in your monthly billing cycle. Calls used before signing up for a subscription plan are billed at standard pay-as-you-go prices.

For example, if you make 20,000 Geocoding API calls using pay-as-you-go for the first half of the month, then sign up for a new Starter subscription plan, your bill is calculated as follows:

Days 1-15: 20,000 Geocoding API calls (Pay-as-you-go @ $5.00 per 1,000 calls, prorated)	$50.00
Days 16-30: 30,000 Geocoding API calls (Starter subscription plan)	$50.00
Total	$100.00

Usage and monitoring

Google sends email and console notifications to your billing account owner and manager when your usage reaches 80% and 90% of your subscription plan usage limit. When your usage exceeds 100% of your plan's limit, Google sends a notification with the date that you exceeded the limit.

Exceeded plan limit

If you exceed 100% of your plan's limit, your billing model switches to standard pay-as-you-go prices for the subscribed SKUs for the remainder of the billing month. You are charged your flat monthly subscription fee, plus any additional usage charged at standard pay-as-you-go prices. Your subscription automatically resets for the next monthly billing cycle.

For example, if you are subscribed to the Pro plan and use 300,000 calls to Address Validation Pro in a month, your bill is calculated as follows:

² For calls beyond the usage limit, the pay-as-you-go rate is determined by your total monthly usage. Because 300,000 total calls falls into the 100,001 – 500,000 usage tier, the 50,000 calls beyond your subscription plan would be charged at $13.60 per 1,000 calls.

Manage your subscription

You can change your subscription at any time without penalty. This includes switching plans or canceling your plan. You can manage your subscription plan on the Maps Subscription Management page.

Change your subscription

You can switch to a different subscription plan at any time. Changes typically take effect within three business days.

When you switch to a new subscription, your bill for the month includes prorated charges. Your bill lists two charges:

• One charge for the number of days on your original subscription plan
• A separate charge for the number of days on your new subscription plan

If you change subscriptions and continue to use services that were included in your original subscription but are not included in your new subscription, those services are charged at standard pay-as-you-go prices. For example, if you switch from a Pro subscription to an Essentials subscription and continue to use Pro services, the Pro service usage after your new plan takes effect is charged at standard pay-as-you-go prices.

Example scenario: Upgrade from Starter to Essentials

If you change plans from the Starter plan to the Essentials plan halfway through a 30-day month, your prorated bill is calculated as follows:

15 days on Starter Plan ($100/month)	$50.00
15 days on Essentials Plan ($275/month)	$137.50
Total	$187.50

Example scenario: Change from Pro to Essentials

If you change plans from the Pro plan to the Essentials plan 10 days into a 30-day month, your prorated bill is calculated as follows:

10 days on Pro Plan ($1,200/month)	$400.00
20 days on Essentials Plan ($275/month)	$183.33
Total	$583.33

Example scenario: Change from Essentials to Starter

In some cases, you won't be able to switch to a new subscription until the next monthly billing cycle. This happens when your usage of the current plan for the month exceeds the usage cap of a lower-tier plan.

For example, if you are on the Essentials plan (100,000 call limit) and have used 60,000 Dynamic Maps or Geocoding calls during the current month, you can't switch to the Starter plan (50,000 call limit) until the next monthly billing cycle.

Cancel your subscription

You can cancel your subscription at any time without penalty. The following applies upon cancellation:

• Prorated final subscription charge: Your bill includes one final, prorated charge for your subscription. This means you only pay for the days the plan was active during the current monthly billing cycle.

• Immediate switch to standard pay-as-you-go pricing: Your service continues without interruption. All new usage for the rest of this monthly billing cycle is charged at the standard pay-as-you-go pricing based on your month-to-date usage.

For example, if you cancel your Essentials subscription plan halfway through a 30-day month and continue to use Google Maps Platform services at standard pay-as-you-go pricing, your prorated bill is calculated as follows:
