In August 2024, we made several changes to make it easier for developers in India to get started and grow with Google Maps Platform. These changes included lower pricing (up to a 70% decrease in cost for most Google Maps Platform Core Services), charging in India Rupees as the default option, and the introduction of the Google Maps Platform ONDC program.
Building on these initiatives, effective March 1, 2025, we are modifying the USD $200 monthly recurring credit to offering a number of free monthly billable events for each Core Service SKU globally. In addition, we are streamlining our offerings into clear categories: Essentials, Pro, and Enterprise. This new structure organizes capabilities based on the level of customization and features needed, without changing online list pricing.

What is a SKU?
A stock keeping unit (SKU) is a distinct item that can be purchased from Google Maps Platform. Each SKU has a set price, which you can view in the Google Maps Platform India pricing page. When a customer uses a service, it can trigger one or more SKUs, each appearing as a separate line item on the customer's bill.
How can I view my Google Maps Platform billable usage?
You can view your billable usage by SKU in the Google Maps Platform console.

Am I required to select only capabilities from one category: Essentials, Pro, and Enterprise?
No, you can continue to select individual capabilities across Essentials, Pro, and Enterprise to meet your needs. Your bill continues to be based on your actual usage. You only pay for what you consume.
Will I still have access to the same services and features?
Yes, you'll still have access to the same services and features. However, we are transitioning Places API, Directions API, and Distance Matrix API to Legacy status and encourage you to migrate to our newer versions of these services, Places API (New) and Routes API. Effective March 1, 2025, you can no longer enable Legacy services. Customers using Legacy services may continue to use them. Visit our Legacy products and features page for additional information, including migration guides.
Will SKU names change after March 1, 2025?
Some SKU names will change effective March 1, 2025. You can view the previous and updated SKU names in the pricing sheet.
Google Maps Platform India pricing
Is this related to the August, 2024 pricing changes?
On August 1, 2024, we lowered pricing for eligible India-based customers by up to 70% for most Google Maps Platform Core Services SKUs. For most Core Services SKUs, eligible India-based customers have access to a usage-based discount after 5,000,000+ monthly billable events, an increase from 100,000+ monthly billable events previously. Customers will continue to receive this lower price.

Who is eligible for India pricing?
Customers with accounts that have billing and a large majority of usage in India will be eligible for this pricing. Customers select the appropriate billing country when creating their billing account in the Google Cloud Console.
Google will monitor eligibility and may disqualify non-eligible customers from this pricing.
What about customers who do not fully meet the eligibility criteria? For example, their billing is in India, but their usage is not. Are they eligible?
This pricing is only available to India-based customers that incur a large majority of usage in India and are billed in India.
Which APIs and SDKs does this pricing apply to?
India pricing applies to Google Maps Platform Core Services.
Does this pricing have a set expiration date?
India pricing does not have a specific time duration.
Google reserves the right to change prices. You will be notified about any pricing changes.
Are there any actions required to access this pricing?
No action is required. India pricing is implemented automatically for eligible customers.
Monthly credit changes
How is monthly credit changing?
To help you identify, evaluate, and test our services, we are modifying the current USD 200 monthly recurring credit by offering a free monthly usage threshold for each Core Service SKU. The free usage threshold varies for each category, as set out below.

Charging in Indian Rupees
What changed?
Google Maps Platform customers can now be charged in INR, and pay their Google Maps Platform bill in INR. The same billing account can be used for Google Maps Platform and Google Cloud usage. This means that:
- New India-based customers are charged and must pay their bill in INR.
- India-based customers, who are currently charged in USD, can choose to be charged in INR, or continue to be charged in USD with their existing account. To be charged and pay your bill in INR, follow the account migration steps referenced in the account migration FAQ.
How will the conversion to INR be calculated?
When Google charges in a local, non-USD currency, we convert Google Maps Platform prices from USD into the applicable local currency pursuant to the conversion rates published by leading financial institutions. More information is available in this Cloud billing guide.
Google Maps Platform ONDC Program
If you are a participant in the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), we have a program focused on helping startups and small businesses get started on Google Maps Platform. Customers interested in building for ONDC using Google Maps Platform can access discounts and tools through participating Google Maps Platform partners.

Other Questions
How will these changes affect my bill?
As of August 1, 2024, customers eligible for the lower India pricing will already see this change reflected on their bill.
Starting March 1, 2025 you will have free monthly usage for each Core Services SKU. Once you exceed the free monthly usage, customers eligible for India pricing will be charged based on the India price sheet. These changes may result in a change in the monthly bill for certain customers, depending on their usage patterns.

Example of a bill increase for a customer eligible for India pricing:
- Prior to March 1, 2025, an India-based customer using 90,000
Geocoding (India) requests per month receives a $200 monthly recurring
credit, resulting in a monthly charge of $0.
- Starting March 1, 2025, this India-based customer will receive 70,000 free monthly requests for using Geocoding (India), an Essentials SKU, and will be charged for the remaining 20,000 requests, resulting in a monthly bill of $30.
Example of bill decrease for a customer eligible for India pricing:
- Prior to March 1, 2025, a billing account using 70,000 monthly Geocoding
(India) requests and 35,000 Places API Text Search (Basic) (India) calls
receives a $200 monthly credit, resulting in a monthly bill of $241.
- Starting March 1, 2025, this billing account will receive 70,000 free monthly requests for using Geocoding (India), an Essentials SKU, and 35,000 free monthly calls for using Places API Text Search Pro (India) (updated SKU name), a Pro SKU, resulting in a monthly charge of $0.
