This page provides a guide for Playable creators to use the Playables Developer Portal to manage Playable releases.
Prerequisites
- An up-to-date web browser, such as Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
- You must have channel manager permission on a YouTube channel that has been onboarded to YouTube Playables.
Access the Playables Developer Portal
- Sign in to YouTube using an account associated with your YouTube Channel.
- Channel manager permissions are required for portal access and modifications.
- To grant access to additional user accounts, the channel manager must assign
manager permissions using YouTube Studio.
- To do this, go to YouTube Studio, navigate to Settings → Permissions, and invite users with the appropriate access level which must be either Editor or Manager.
Once you have access to the correct channel, you can access the Playables Developer Portal. A list of Playables associated with your channel will be displayed on the home page.
Create and submit a Playable release
The portal walks you through four steps to publish a game: Details, Test, Age rating, and Review & publish. You can click Save and exit at any time and come back later to continue.
Create a new Playable
To create a new Playable, use the Add a new game button on the Playables Developer Portal home page. To update an existing Playable, select it from the list on the home page.
Add game details
In the Details step, you will need to:
- Upload the Playable bundle in ZIP format while adhering to specified requirements, and select the bundle's entry point.
- Provide the necessary metadata details, including title, description, genre, publisher, and developer information.
- Upload a thumbnail in each aspect ratio according to the design requirements.
- Select the language of your title and description, and optionally add translations.
- Review your ad monetization settings. Pre-roll, interstitial, and rewarded ads are all on by default, and pre-roll can't be turned off. Interstitial and rewarded ads only show if your game also uses the Playables SDK ads-related features. You can turn either one off in this step.
- Optionally, select the accessibility features that your game supports.
When you're done, click Next.
Test your game
The Test step provides testing links for your release: a link to preview your game on YouTube, which you can also open by scanning the QR code, and a link to run your game in the Playables Test Suite. Use the preview to work through the checklist, which helps you check whether your game follows the integration requirements.
Test your game on each of the following platforms. To test on Android and iOS, scan the QR code with your mobile device, or send the preview link to the device by email or text message and open it there.
- Desktop web
- Mobile web
- YouTube for Android
- YouTube for iOS
Get an age rating
Your game must have an age rating from the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) before you can submit it for review. In the Age rating step:
- Provide a contact email address, which is shared with IARC and the rating authorities that assign age ratings to your game.
- If your game already has an IARC age rating and the Playables version doesn't change its monetization, interactive features, or other content you previously disclosed to IARC, import the existing rating. Otherwise, complete the IARC questionnaire to get a new rating.
Review and publish
In the Review & publish step, confirm that your game follows the Playables requirements, and then click Submit for review. You'll get an email when the review is done.
While your game is in review, you can't make changes to it. To make changes, click Cancel review, update your game, and then submit it again.
When the review is done, the Review & publish step shows the results:
- Ready to publish: Your game is approved. Click Publish to make it available to players on YouTube.
- Ready to publish, changes recommended: Your game can be published, but the review found issues you should fix. For example, if your game fails the monetization review, ads are turned off until you fix the issues and submit your game for review again.
- Changes needed: Fix the listed issues, update the Details step, and then resubmit your game.
