Since the introduction of our gaming services in 2018, we’ve been proud to launch innovative new game experiences with developers like you. While we remain dedicated to supporting the developer community, we’ve made the difficult decision to wind down the service due to limited adoption.
As of October 18, 2021, we will no longer enable new customers for Google Maps Platform gaming services. Current users will have continued access until December 31, 2022. During this time, we will continue to provide support and fixes for major bugs and outages.
This guide provides an overview of how the various gaming services APIs were implemented, so that you can leverage the key concepts to create your own solutions. The Transition Guide includes the following pages:
- Playable Locations API design overview provides an overview of the concepts behind the Playable Locations API, which you can use to generate your own set of playable locations using an alternate data source.
- Developing your own back-end for the Unity SDK shows how to use Maps SDK for Unity with the Semantic Tile API example server.
- Semantic tile proto and example server
shows how to use the protocol buffer interface in
semantictileapi.proto
, so you can implement your own backend, using an alternate source for mapping data without having to rewrite your entire game.
